David L. Pierson Young Musicians Concerto Competition

The purpose of this competition is to identify outstanding talented young musicians in the Dayton metropolitan and surrounding areas, to encourage young musicians to pursue further study, and to stimulate competition among student musicians.  The competition is open to those area high school students who will be in grades 10-12 during the next school year. Concerto auditions are held for piano, strings, woodwinds, brass, and percussion. Candidates are judged by the highest artistic standards by distinguished area musicians who judge the preliminary competition. Music Director Neal Gittleman will judge the finals.  The winner of this competition receives a $500 cash award and is the featured soloist with the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra at a Young People’s Concert next season. Second and Third Place finalists receive a cash award.

Applicants must reside in one of the following counties: Butler, Champaign, Clark, Darke, Greene, Miami, Montgomery, Preble, Shelby, or Warren. Exceptions to this requirement may be made for students who are members of Dayton Philharmonic Youth Orchestras or students of Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra members.

The deadline is May 16, 2020. For more information contact ruthreveal@daytonperformingarts.org
