What is the DPVA?
The Dayton Philharmonic Volunteer Association was created in 1952 with an ongoing mission to support the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra in the areas of education, promotion, fundraising and membership development. DPVA is the largest volunteer organization supporting the Dayton Performing Arts Alliance and is the largest music education program in the United States.
Over the last 65 years, the DPVA has raised more than two million dollars for the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra and music education programs for school children in the Miami Valley.
Our education programs include:
- Q the Music at Ruskin Elementary
- Orchestra & You (second grade)
- Young People’s Concert Previews
- SPARK (K-5 in seven area schools)
- Take Note concert preview talks
Why We Need Your Help
Each year, over 90 DPVA volunteers actively participate in our education programs that serve over 75,000 children throughout ten counties of the Miami Valley. We must acquire and refurbish stringed instruments for our Q the Music program. The Orchestra & You program uses 23 Plexiglas instruments which need periodic repair or replacement. The Young People’s Concert Previews program regularly needs new equipment such as a sound system, laptop or projector. Each year, the DPVA pledges its monetary support to the DPAA for the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra including three Youth Orchestras & their education outreach programs. In addition, we help foster the next generation of musicians by providing scholarships and financial aid for outstanding young musicians.
When you donate $500 or more for an ivory key (the ebony keys are sold out), your name, or the name of your group will be printed on one of the keys of our 52″ high piano.
The piano will be on display in the Schuster Center or other venues during DPO, DPYO, DPYS and other DPAA events throughout the coming season.
