DAYTON PHILHARMONIC VOLUNTEER ASSOCIATION TO PRESENT "THE BIG BLING" DPO 75TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION INCLUDING AN HISTORICAL RE-CREATION CONCERT AT DAYTON ART INSTITUTE
Event features pre-concert dinners at area hosts' homes, dessert reception, champagne toast, silent auction, and historically accurate-to-the-minute re-creation of DPO's first-ever concert on same date in 1933
Dayton, Ohio (April 8, 2008) - On Sunday evening, June 1 at 9:00 pm at the Dayton Art Institute, Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra Music Director Neal Gittleman and selected members of the DPO will present a 75th Anniversary Concert virtually re-creating the exact place, time, and repertoire of the DPO's first-ever concert conducted by DPO founder Paul Katz in 1933.
Recognizing the DPO's "diamond" anniversary, the Dayton Philharmonic Volunteer Association is hosting an event called The Big Bling surrounding this historical recreation of the original 1933 concert, which celebrates the DPO's 75th Anniversary. Neal Gittleman and the DPO (downsized to recreate the original orchestra that Paul Katz conducted on that date in 1933) will perform at the Dayton Art Institute in the exact same room!
DPO donors, DPVA members, and current DPO subscribers have already received an invitation to the DPVA's 75th Anniversary event. Anyone who has not received an invitation and would like to attend this historical celebration still has time to guarantee themselves a seat. Individual tickets are available at the $125 Sparkling level, the $175 Glittering level, and the $225 Dazzling level, for which purchasers at any of these three levels receive a Diamond Dinner at a host's home (5 pm - 7 pm); a dessert reception, champagne toast, silent auction, and entertainment at the Dayton Art Institute (7:30 pm); and the 75th anniversary Concert (9 pm), at which the DPVA will announce the Designers' Show House & Gardens home chosen for 2009.

In addition, the DPVA will raffle-off a brand new, Lexus automobile; raffle tickets are $100 each, and the winner will be announced following the concert. Purchase of a raffle ticket does not include admission to the concert or the pre-concert events. However, you do not need to purchase a concert ticket to be able to buy a raffle ticket. For details on how to purchase tickets or reserve a seat at a Diamond Dinner, call Toni Donato Shade at 937-224-3521, ext. 134.
This end-of-season event constitutes the DPVA's major fundraising event of the year. The Orchestra uses the funds generated for such things as underwriting a portion of the Orchestra's operating expenses; underwriting extra rehearsals; providing scholarships to junior high, high school, and college students; and providing hospitality to DPO musicians and the DPO's guest artists throughout the concert season.
